So I’ve gone and done something terrible. Despite my preference for local shops, I had to order some running clothes from Amazon. Ugh. I feel ashamed.
I know I know. But I should note that the rest of my wardrobe, although still small, was all purchased in-store, and I feel like athletic outfits are way overpriced at traditional athletic shops. And cheapness won this round.
Anyway, I bought my first pair of running shorts and shirts. I like to get up really early to run or go to the gym, and I am looking forward to a nice run once everything gets here.
These will be my first crew neck shirts, and my first short shorts. I haven’t yet been able to find a t-shirt neck that I like, so I’m hoping that crew necks work better. Also, I tend to prefer skirts because they are very distinct and are more fun than typical shorts, and because I can wear tights with them. True, one can wear tights with shorts also, but whereas short shorts aren’t necessarily feminine, skirts certainly are. (I will say that this short short ambiguity works to my advantage in this case. Men’s running shorts often run the same length and so are less likely to arouse suspicion from my fellow early runners. The shirts will definitely be obviously female, but that’s kind of the point.)
I’m approaching my run with some trepidation, although I can’t quite place that fear. I think I’m worried about my male image, but this seems peripheral since it is very unlikely that I’ll run into anyone I know. Regardless, I think this is an important step on the road to acceptance.
I’ll send updates soon! Also, I think I’ll publish reviews of the shorts/shirt combo when they arrive, in case anyone else is interested in them.
